The entire children’s and teen sections of the Westerville Public Library were closed Friday after a water heater in the administrative offices above them failed and leaked water overnight. The damage was discovered when an employee arrived about 6:20 in the morning. A large portion of the children’s fiction section was damaged by the water. Although the section is closed children can request books from a librarian just outside the damaged are. If the book is not one of those damaged it can be checked out. A cleanup and recovery crew spent most of the day vacuuming away water and using cool drying equipment in an attempt to lessen the damage to some books. The children’s and teen section will remain closed as the damage is assessed and repaired. Programs scheduled for that section on Saturday are cancelled.  More information from the library can be found at westervillelibrary.org/damage. The Westerville Library Foundation has established a GoFundMe page at gofundme.com/rebuildwplkids for anyone interested in donating to help rebuild the library’s collection.
