Police officers killed investigating 911 call – Photo Gallery

Westerville Police Officers Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering were killed Saturday when they responded to a dropped 911 call at an apartment on Crosswind Drive. Westerville Police Chief Joe Morbitzer said officer Joering, 39, died at the scene and, Morelli, 54, died at a local hospital. He said the officers were responding to a “potential domestic situation” and were fired on almost as soon as they entered the building to investigate.

Remembering the Knights Inn – Now the Aloft

The Aloft Hotel opened this week on Heatherdown Drive replacing the Knights Inn which the city purchased and demolished after it fell into disrepair and was abandoned. The hotel, with a spectacular steel horse sculpture at its entrance, is one of two new hotels in the city. Photo Gallery at link.

Mike Heyeck, Chairman of the Westerville City Council, invites public participation in plans for streetscape improvements in Uptown Westerville. Public input will be at the March 13, 2018, city council meeting. Possible plans for the upgrades will be heard at the March 5, 2018, meeting.

The Boar gets mounted

The Boar sculpture is mounted on the wall above the kitchen at Barrel & Boar restaurant in Uptown Westerville. The restaurant, moving into the space at 8 North State that was home to 8 State Bistro, has its final inspections early in the week. It plans to open as soon as the inspections are complete and permits are issued.

Michigan apples recalled

Jack Brown Produce, Inc. of Sparta, MI is recalling Gala, Fuji, Honeycrisp and Golden Delicious apples processed and shipped by one of its suppliers, Nyblad Orchards, Inc., on December 11 through December 16, 2017, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

West Main Street water leak repaired – Photo Gallery

A city work crew using a high-pressure water wand, a high volume vacuum, a sensitive microphone system with a magnetic mount, and hand tools, repaired the leaking flange that connected two approximately 50-year-old iron water main pipes beneath West Main Street.

MCL Scooters Club final meeting – Photo Gallery

The Scooters Club has its final weekly meeting at MCL Restaurant in Westerville. The group of about 50 people began gathering at the restaurant shortly after it opened 20 years ago when Eileen Dague invited a few friends to join her after work for dinner so they could talk over a meal.
