Road Report – Car crashes close State Street and August Crash Report

Westerville police report investigating 90 car crashes in August with almost a third of them resulting in injuries

The number one intersection for accidents was North State Street at the Maxtown Road and Polaris Parkway convergence with Thursday the most common day. The most common time of day was between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Thursday saw two injury accidents within 100 yards of each other on South State Street between Huber Village Blvd. and I270. One early in the afternoon closed State Street southbound from Huber as Blendon police investigated a crash between a car and a cement truck at the westbound on ramp to I-270. Fire fighters used a saw to cut open the car to treat the driver.

A second crash in the afternoon, close to the peak crash time, happened closer to Huber and closed State St. more than 30 minutes until the injured could be transported to St. Ann’s and the roadway cleared of cars and debris.

Traffic, in both cases, backed up on the southbound side of State past the intersection with Schrock. Afternoon traffic was rerouted to the Cleveland Ave. I-270 ramps causing long lines at traffic signals.

A car crash in the morning closed State Street southbound from Huber as Blendon police investigated a crash between a car and a cement truck at the westbound on-ramp to I-270. Firefighters used a saw to cut open the car to treat the driver.

Traffic slowed and delayed by car crashes on South State were greeted with what for them was an obvious electronic sign. The sign was placed on State to warn of traffic conditions in Uptown during 4th Friday.
