Dogs Rule Uptown Westerville on August 25th
WESTERVILLE, OH- Man’s best friend will have a reason to strut during Mount Carmel St. Ann’s 4th Friday: Dog Days of Summer in Uptown Westerville on August 25th, 2017.
With vendors selling all manner of dog-related products and services, a doggie carnival and opportunities to become a registered Canine Good Citizen, there will be plenty of pleased pooches.
Dog Days of Summer is brought to the Central Ohio community by the Westerville Visitors & Convention Bureau with support from Mount Carmel St. Ann’s, the City of Westerville, Hometown Service Center, Amish Originals Furniture Co., Rockin’ Jump and the Arts Council of Westerville. It is the fifth of six 4th Friday events held each year from 6-9pm in Uptown Westerville.
Dogs will be able to bob for treats, bowl for treats, learn a trick and more during the Doggie Carnival in the parking lot of Union Savings Bank, 44 S. State St. Each activity will be $1 with the funds raised going to Rescued Ohio and I Have a Dream Rescue. Pet Portraits will be taken with part of the proceeds going to Cause for Canines. Shirk Orthodontics will be handing out free doggie bandanas while supplies last.
West College Ave. will be filled with street vendors both dogs and people will enjoy, including food, rescue groups, veterinarians, pet sitters and other services. Just up the street at Captivating Canines, 12 E. Main St., there will be an “Ask the Trainer” table, plus information about adopting rescued animals.
Next to the WVCB office at 20 W. Main St. dogs will have the chance to prove to their people they Qualify as an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen. Testing will be conducted by certified dog trainers for $20 and a practice test will be given for $10. Dogs must be able to accept a friendly stranger, sit politely for petting, walk on a loose lead, obey commands and other items. Proceeds will be used to train rescue dogs to make them more adoptable.
Just so the dogs don’t have all the fun, Next Level Fitness will host some fun opportunities for humans to get up and move. Watch for signs near State and College for more information. Also near State and College, The Academy Irish Dance will perform during the evening and Zumba Party with Natalia will get the crowd moving with world music.
The Arts Council of Westerville will host “Arts Alley” behind the St. Matthew’s Pray, Think, Love House between E. College Ave. and E. Main St. and will feature the works of local artists as well as the music of Shane D. Wilson and Mojos Muse.
On the Amish Originals Furniture Co. Music Stage, Avalon Nine will perform from 6-9p.m. with the Taoist Tai Chi Society and Leap of Faith Dance Company demonstrating their talents during the band’s breaks near the corner of N. State St. and E. Home.
Mount Carmel St. Ann’s 4th Fridays have become a Central Ohio tradition featuring 100+ street vendors, food, extended shopping hours, live entertainment and activities for children throughout the streets of Uptown Westerville.
Westerville Public Library is giving families with kids, infants through age five, the opportunity to come to the library before 4th Friday starts to hear stories. “4th Friday Stories” will be held from 5:15-5:45 p.m. in the Youth Services Activity Center at the Library, 126 S. State St.
Once the event begins, kids ages two to 10 will enjoy “4th Friday Fun” with the Library as part of “Party in the Via” a new area located just north of the Municipal Building, 21 S. State St. This month, stop by the library’s booth to “throw a dog a bone” with a pup-themed bag toss, make dog ears to take home, and meet one of your favorite book characters come to life, Clifford the Big Red Dog. “Party in the Via” will also feature a caricature artist, ice pop vendor and Mix 107.9. Children will also enjoy the Rockin’ Jump Kids Corner on E. College Ave., featuring bounce houses for those 10 and under.
The Westerville Bicycle Club encourages attendees to ride their bikes to 4th Friday and will keep bikes secure during the event in its free Bike Corral on W. Main St., behind the Middlefield Banking Co.
AAA Ohio Auto Club and Hertz will provide a shuttle service from the Westerville Senior Center, 310 W. Main St. to the Westerville Visitors Bureau, 20 W. Main St. every 15 minutes, beginning at 6 p.m. and will take folks back to their cars after the event.
