Over The Dam – Voluntarily

A man who intentionally rode his kayak over the low head dam at Alum Creek Park North in Westerville offers a thank you and a handshake to some of the Westerville firefighters who came to his aid. The kayak remained trapped in the swirl below the dam after he gave his phone to a bystander telling her take a video as he went over the dam in the kayak. He became separated from the kayak and tumbled for a few minutes until he was able to get away from the dam. He was wearing a personal flotation device. His phone was eventually returned to him with a suggestion by police and fire to not attempt another trip over the dam.
